ADULTCOMPETITIONS

Something for everyone at every level

At DPTC we encourage all our members to get involved.   There are a variety of internal and inter-club competitions to take part in.  There is something for every one at every level.

INTERNAL

Everyone has to start somewhere.

EXTERNAL

Ready to take the next step.

INTERNAL COMPETITIONS

There are several internal club tournaments running throughout the year that give you the opportunity to exercise your competitive spirit. There is something for everyone at all levels from beginners to the more experienced.

Adult Internal Competitions

1.

ROUND

ROBIN

Round Robin is one of the most popular events of the year. It traditionally runs over five months from January to May. It is a great way to practice your tennis skills, meet new members and have fun. You are placed in groups with players of a similar standard so that you can play at the level that works best for you. After each round, highest-scoring players in each group are promoted and the lowest scoring are relegated. Prizegiving takes place when the last round is complete and the scores across all four rounds have been added up

2.

SOCIAL

TENNIS TOURNAMENTS

Social Tennis Tournaments take place regularly throughout the year. There are several formats. These are usually held on Saturday evenings and are a great way to get to start playing competitions in the club in a social setting. Tennis is followed by a social event in the clubhouse. Please see the Social Tennis section for more information.

3.

TEAM

TENNIS

The competition format is doubles and sees teams playing against each other to score the most points in 'Best of 21 Games' matches. Each team is comprised of a mix of players from beginners to league players. To add some intrigue to the proceedings, the pairings are decided upon just before each match begins, so no one can be sure of who will be on the opposite side of the net. Prizes go to the team with the most points overall and the teams that top each 'line'.

4.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The DPTC Club Championships take place once a year at the end of summer/beginning of autumn. The competition is a knock-out format in five events, men’s and ladies’ singles, men’s and ladies’ doubles and mixed doubles. To encourage members at every level of experience to take part there are three sections:

  1. The Championship Competition

  2. The Club Competition

  3. The Plate Competition

The Club Championship Finals are followed by our At Home. This is traditionally held at the end of Tennis Club Championships and it marks the end of the Summer season. We celebrate another year of great tennis and present the Champions with our beautiful perpetual trophies.

EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS

There are tournaments and leagues running throughout the year. These inter-club leagues are the ideal way to get regular match practice against players from other clubs in the greater Dublin area. All club members are invited to represent the club in these competitions.
